These are exciting times for Iqaluit's The Jerry Cans, who have taken the territory, the country, and the world by storm over the last couple of years.

Iqaluit's The Jerry Cans joined comedian Mary Walsh at Iqaluit's breakwater March 12 to make a promo for their appearance at the 2018 Junos March 25 in Vancouver.
Not only is the band nominated for two awards, the Canadian Academy of Arts and Sciences (CARAS) announced a few more musicians who will take to the Rogers Arena stage the main evening of the music awards – and that list includes The Jerry Cans. Others on the main stage include Diana Krall, Shawn Hook, and the Barenaked Ladies.
The Jerry Cans won't hit the stage alone. Inuktitut pop songwriter Riit, Trade-Offs frontman Josh Qaumariaq, throat singer Avery Keenainak and Northern Haze member James Ungalaq will join them to perform Ukiuq from the album Inuusiq/Life.
"These nine musicians will each travel nearly 4,000 km to Vancouver to perform in Inuktitut, a language seldom heard on national television," an Aakuluk Music release stated. "This show of Northern strength is also a glorious panoramic view of Nunavut’s contemporary music history and future, and is a proud moment and milestone achievement for the team."
To celebrate, the band threw a party at the Frobisher Inn for a proper send-off with their fans March 16.
But not before a Canadian icon dropped by to offer encouragement.
Comedian, actor and social activist Mary Walsh was in the capital to judge a comedy contest, and called on Iqalungmiut to help create a TV spot featuring The Jerry Cans.
Sanikiluaq's Kelly Fraser and Cambridge Bay's Tanya Tagaq are also up for awards, promising an evening not to be missed.
