Behchoko RCMP makes two alcohol seizures

The NWT RCMP reported Tuesday that two alcohol seizures were made last week in the Behchoko.

Behchoko RCMP made two alcohol seizures recently in and near the community of Behchoko. The Tlicho community recently put in place a temporary ban on alcohol. Police are investing both incidents.

The community had signed a temporary alcohol prohibition on May 9 and according to a news release, Behchoko RCMP intercepted a vehicle in the community three days later carrying 13 mickeys of whiskey and vodka and a 750 ml bottle of vodka.

The next day on Wednesday, May 13, police stopped a vehicle heading to the community on Highway 3 and seized 3.3 litres of liquor as well as 48 cans of beer.

Both incidents remain under investigation to find out if the alcohol seized was intended for unlawful sale. No charges have been laid.

“Behchoko RCMP will continue to support our partner agencies and community leaders on all efforts to address substance abuse and the harm it can bring," stated Sgt. Ryan Plustwa, Behchoko RCMP Detachment Commander in the news release. "We are committed to the safety of our community."
