Body of missing tourist John Holliday found in Tuktoyaktuk

RCMP

The body of missing tourist John Holliday, the subject of an exhaustive search in Tuktoyaktuk after he was reported missing on Wednesday, has been found.

Holliday's body was located just before noon near the shore in the Tuktoyaktuk Harbour, or the Point as it's referred to in the hamlet, by RCMP officers and members of the Tuktoyaktuk Search and Rescue Society, police say.

He was found submerged in water not far from where he was last seen Wednesday.

Police have yet to deem the death suspicious or not suspicious and the cause of Holliday's death is undetermined at this time, RCMP Const. Robert Frizzell told News/North.

Media report Holliday was camping in the community before being reported as missing.

The NWT Coroner Services, working alongside RCMP, have transported the body from the scene for a postmortem examination.

RCMP thanks all community members who volunteered during ground, water and air searches.

More to come.
