The Tlicho community of Behchoko announced June 17 that it is continuing a temporary prohibition of alcohol consumption.

A notice was posted to the Tlicho Facebook.cook page stating that the temporary ban is effective until June 24.

COMMUNITY REPORT: Behchoko seeks prohibition extension in battle over alcohol consumption .

Chief Clifford Daniels told NNSL Media earlier this month that the temporary prohibition was put in place to discourage socializing while Covid-19 remains a concern.

‘Due to public safety concerns caused by a significant increase in alcohol abuse and related unlawful activity, council has applied for a Temporary prohibition order,’ states the latest notice from June 17.

The notice also states that no person shall consume, purchase, sell or transport liquor within a 25-kilometre radius of the community’s Sportsplex – including in areas of Rae, Frank Channel and Edzo.
