Gun, drugs and money seized in Fort Providence

Police have charged two men from Edmonton, Alta.  with multiple drug and weapon charges after a traffic stop and search warrant were conducted in Fort Providence.

Cassiuis Paradis, 30, and a male youth who cannot be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act were arrested on October 20 after Fort Providence RCMP performed a traffic stop in the community. A loaded AR15 carbine rifle, cocaine, cash and drug paraphernalia were seized from inside the vehicle.

A simultaneous search warrant was conducted on a residence in the community that found cocaine, cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia. RCMP state the investigation is ongoing with no additional charges coming from the raid on the property.

"Both the search warrant and the vehicle stop were results of separate short-term investigations into alleged drug trafficking in Fort Providence," stated an RCMP news release.

Both men are facing eight separate charges ranging from possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking to unauthorized possession of firearm and possession of weapon for dangerous purpose to unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle.

Both Paradis and the youth are in custody and are scheduled to appear in court this week.
