Healthy Living Fair a success

The first of a territory-wide series of Community Healthy Living Fairs had "a good turn out," according to host, Jean Marie River First Nation.

Aside from booths from various factions of the GNWT, the Arctic Energy Alliance, NWT Tourism, Status of Women Council, other businesses and organizations and locals demonstrated a variety of skills including dry meat making, trap setting, ice fishing and moose hair tufting during the Jan. 24 fair, according to the First Nation.

Though the fairs are supported by the GNWT, they "are driven by local community champions," it states on the Department of Health and Social Service’s website.

"The fairs are an effective way to draw people together to help meet their need and desire for information on healthy living from local providers and professionals."

Fairs are scheduled in 17 other communities between now and March. One was scheduled for Feb. 1 in Nahanni Butte, and one that same day in Tulita.
