Local food in Fort Good Hope

The results of a pilot project in Fort Good Hope conclude that there is potential for sustainable agriculture in Northern communities if the soil is enriched.

“The project proved that our cold climate adaptive technology is feasible,” stated K’asho Got’ine Chief Wilfred McNeely in a press release. “We can develop crops above the permafrost and our next step is to purchase and install a greenhouse for commercial vegetable production.” NWT MP Michael McLeod announced the completion of the project, which was helped by a $50,100 federal grant, at the Sahtu Secretariat Inc.’s annual general meeting in Tulita last week.
