Man arrested after armed standoff in Fort Smith, say RCMP

A man's armed standoff with police in Fort Smith ended without incident early this morning, say RCMP.

On Thursday afternoon, according to a news release issued Friday, Fort Smith RCMP attended a residence in the community after receiving a report around 8 p.m. that an armed man had barricaded himself in the home.

Members of the NWT RCMP Emergency Response team, including negotiators, responded to the scene.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. this morning, the man was arrested without incident, police say.

RCMP have not released the man's name nor have they stated whether or not he's been charged.

The incident was isolated and there is no threat to the community, states the news release.

Police are continuing to investigate the standoff. No further information will be released at this time, state RCMP.
