A Hay River man is facing charges for allegedly causing a disturbance and endangering the safety of an aircraft, and assault on an aircraft.
The accused is Max Mahoney, who is facing the charges under the Aeronautics Act and the Criminal Code.
Mahoney appeared in Territorial Court on April 9, but has not yet entered pleas to the charges.
Crown attorney Martha Chertkow said the charges involve an aircraft that was in flight over the NWT at or near Hay River on Jan. 26 of this year.
Chertkow said one charge alleges an assault which was likely to endanger the safety of the aircraft.
The second charge under the Criminal Code alleges an assault on the same complainant.
"So those two charges are in relation to the same event," said Chertkow.
The charge under the Aeronautics Act alleges the accused engaged in unruly or dangerous behaviour interfering with the performance of the duties of any crewmember.
Chertkow said that charge results from the same series of events as the assault.
"They're not necessarily identical because one is just alleging an assault," she said. "Whereas unruly and dangerous behaviour can consist of more actions than just an assault."
Chertkow declined to offer details of the alleged unruly and dangerous behaviour.
"That's what we'll be alleging in court," she said.
The Crown attorney didn't have information on which airline was involved.
Mahoney will be back in court on April 23.
