Man sentenced for cocaine trafficking

Franklin Gauthier, 52, has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for trafficking cocaine.

The sentence was imposed on Jan. 16 in Hay River Territorial Court.

Crown attorney Wayne Silliker noted Gauthier had earlier pleaded guilty to the offence, which occurred in August of 2016.

Gauthier was also sentenced to 12 months of probation upon release.

In addition, he was ordered to provide a DNA sample and prohibited from possessing firearms for 10 years.

The sentence was imposed by Deputy Judge R.M. Bourassa.

Gauthier was one of seven people arrested in August of 2016 in a combined effort of the Hay River RCMP Detachment and G Division's Federal Investigations Unit.
