Mounties launch Operation Gingerbread

NWT RCMP Traffic Services and detachments across the territory have begun their annual holiday traffic enforcement patrols and check stops. The campaign, dubbed Operation Gingerbread, runs until January 1. The initiative is designed to prevent people from driving impaired and to keep NWT roads safe over the holidays, stated RCMP in a news release. Police will also be checking snowmobile and ATV drivers.

Impaired driving is an entirely preventable cause of death and injuries that has immense costs and devastating effects in our communities,”stated RCMP Corporal Todd Scaplen with Traffic Services.

Last year during Operation Gingerbread 22 motorists were charged with impaired driving after the Mounties checked almost 1,500 vehicles.
