Amin Yussuf, a man wanted in connection to a 2019 homicide in Edmonton, was arrested Friday in Coquitlam, British Colombia, according to a news release from the Edmonton Police

The man, known to have ties to Yellowknife and Hay River, was wanted on Canada-wide warrants after 26-year-old Abubeker Gemechu Abduraman was shot dead in 2019 outside Xhale Lounge, an Edmonton hookah bar. Two others were also shot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

On Friday, Feb. 26, Coquitlam RCMP responded to a call for a domestic disturbance. The male suspect, later determined to be Yussuf, was arrested for obstruction and transported to the local police detachment. After confirming his identity through fingerprints, police arrested Yussuf on outstanding warrants. He was transported back to Edmonton Wednesday.

Yussuf faces charges of first degree murder, two counts of attempted murder using a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm. A court date has yet to be set.
