Six new science and engineering scholarships for female students are now available at the University of Calgary, thanks to a United Nations-partnered program offered by De Beers Canada.
As a member of “HeForShe” – a UN Women initiative that taps male leaders in both the public and private sector to act as agents of change in the fight for gender equality – De Beers Canada will offer four scholarships to undergraduate students entering the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary, stated a news release from De Beers last week.
Another two scholarships will be up for grabs for students setting their sights on the Faculty of Science.
The offering is part of a De Beers’ plan to provide $504,000 in scholarships to female students with interests in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)-related fields by the year 2020.
Would-be recipients of the scholarships will be selected from the current road of female applications looking to enter first-year studies at the University of Calgary in the fall.
