Changes have been delayed to the walk-in appointment system at the Hay River Medical Clinic.

"We continue to work with our partners to ensure all technological and staffing requirements are in place," reads a March 14 update from the Hay River Health and Social Services Authority. "In the lead-up to starting our new initiative, there will be time for training, testing and other preparations. We anticipate beginning our new service on April 3, 2018."

Changes to the walk-in appointment system had been expected to be announced in February.

Changes were recommended following a review by a working group that formed last spring and involved health centre staff and members of the public.

Council seeks ATM recommendation

At its March 13 meeting, town council agreed to ask administration to bring a recommendation to the April 24 council meeting on the placement of an ATM in the new recreation complex.

Council will formally vote on making the request at its regular council meeting on March 27.

March is Fraud Prevention Month

The RCMP in the NWT and its Financial Crimes Unit are reminding people that March is Fraud Prevention Month.

In a March 14 news release, the Financial Crimes Unit noted that reports of fraudulent activity have recently been reported in the NWT, and it suggested residents use extra caution when dealing with businesses, organizations or persons on the phone, via text or on the Internet.

In one report, an apparent scammer posed as a northern service provider, complete with credible account details, and requested changes to payment information. No dollar value loss was reported in that incident.

In other reports, sophisticated websites led persons to send money to fraudsters. There were dollar value losses reported, including losses in the thousands of dollars. Investigations into those reports continue.

Board of Revision hears complaints

The Town of Hay River's Board of Revision was conducted on March 7.

"Fifteen items were heard and the letters to the complainants went out today," said Ruth Boden, the town's director of finance and administration, at the council meeting on March 13.

The board hears complaints about property tax assessments.
