Nominations open for Deh Gah Got’ie election

Deh Gah Got’ie First Nation is gearing up for a Nov. 20 election.

Nominations for a chief and seven councillors opened Oct. 2 and will close Oct. 27. Prior to the election, two advance polls will take place Nov. 6 and Nov. 10.

The First Nation, based in Fort Providence, is the “primary and legitimate government within the traditional homeland of the Deh Gah Got’ie Dene people,” but because Fort Providence is not located on a reserve, the hamlet still has a mayor and council.

Chief Joachim Bonnetrouge currently holds the chief seat. Both the election and advance polls are set to take place at the Nahecho Keh Centre in Fort Providence.
