NWT woman found dead near Merritt, BC

Mounties in Merritt, BC confirmed today that a woman found dead on Sunday, July 22 on Highway 5 neat Merritt, BC is from the NWT. 

The 27-year-old woman had connections in the South Okanagan, states a news release from Merritt RCMP.

The woman’s identity is not yet being released, as her next of kin has not been notified of her death.

“Merritt RCMP members continue to work with the BC Coroners Service to try and determine a cause of death,” the release states.

The woman was discovered following a vehicle collision near Mine Creek Rd. and Highway 5, 20 minutes south of Merritt, states a July 23 release.

While traffic stopped during the collision, a motorist exited his vehicle and discovered the woman on the side of the highway.

The Kamloops RCMP forensic unit and B.C. Coroner Service investigated the scene and the examination showed “no overt signs” that the death was criminal.

The woman has dyed blonde and red hair, RCMP state in the release.

She was not previously reported missing, the release states.

RCMP are seeking information about pedestrians near the Mine Creek Road exit over the last several days, urging anyone with information to contact Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262.
