Online threat to South Slave schools

The RCMP has made an arrest in Fort Resolution involving an alleged threat on social media against schools in Hay River, Fort Resolution and Fort Smith.

Fort Resolution RCMP received a complaint that a perceived threat was posted on social media the evening of Sept. 5.

According to a Sept. 8 news release, the RCMP advised the schools of the alleged threat, and increased police presence around the schools, although none was placed on lockdown.

Following an investigation, a young person was arrested in Fort Resolution on Sept. 7.

The RCMP says the investigation is continuing.

The police remind parents and caregivers it is a good practice to be aware of their children's online activities, and to discuss with them the seriousness of making a perceived threat.
