The Northwest Territories Power Corporation is advising Aklavik residents to expect occasional rolling power outages until Friday as it updates its local power plant.
The outages won’t be all day, according to NTPC’s statement, but are expected to just last a few minutes at a time.
Aklavik senior administrative officer Fred Behrens said Friday, when the rolling outages were slated to begin, “It should be pretty manageable.”
Behrens says the community has had notice of the outages and were expecting this period to happen, and haven’t had any big problems with other recent outages in the winter months.
“We had one here last Friday,” he said. “It took a section of people out. It was cold, but power came back on and everything was OK.”
