RCMP investigating suspicious death near Hay River

Police are investigating a suspicious sudden death Hay River, in the area close to Sandy Creek and a road known as the Wilderness Lodge Road on the K'atlodeeche First Nation.

RCMP on Thursday responded to a report of a vehicle on the side of the road to Sandy Creek. Upon arrival, they found a deceased male.

Police are not releasing the identity of the victim at this time.

In a statement Friday, Hay River RCMP and the Northwest Territories RCMP Major Crimes Unit said the road is believed to be popular among people hoping to view the Northern Lights.

They are asking anyone who may have been in the area between the evening of Dec. 26 and morning of Dec. 28 to call the Hay River RCMP at 867-874-1111.

“No detail, or observation, may be too small when we are in the beginning stages of this investigation, so we need to hear from anyone who was in the area,” stated RCMP spokesperson Marie York-Condon.
