Tickets, warnings handed out during traffic blitz

Tickets and warnings were handed out to Fort Providence drivers during a joint safety blitz from RCMP and government agencies.

Fort Providence RCMP and NWT RCMP Traffic Services teamed up with the GNWT Department of Infrastructure and Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) on Oct. 20, stopping and checking 114 vehicles between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m., stated a news release from RCMP last week.

Five tickets and eight warnings were issued to drivers for speeding, failing to produce registration, failing to provide insurance and failing to carry registration.

Inspections on commercial vehicles yielded six tickets.

“This joint initiative with our partners shows drivers that we will mobilize resources to communities and provide these check stops on their road systems to ensure safe roads throughout the territory,” stated RCMP spokesperson Marie York-Condon.

The RCMP remind residents to report suspected impaired driving to their local RCMP detachment.
