Victims identified in fatal plane crash near Fort Simpson

The identities of three tourists killed when the Cessna 206 airplane they were in crashed at Little Doctor Lake last week have been released.

Geoffrey Dean, 33, of Castor, AB, Stewart Edelman, 72, of Saskatoon, SK and Jean Edelman, 72 of Saskatoon, SK, were killed in the crash, stated NWT Coroner's Office in a release Thursday afternoon.

The plane went down during a routine landing around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday Aug. 16. It was due to return to Fort Simpson from a flightseeing tour in the Nahanni National Park Reserve.

Another passenger, a woman from Alberta, and a local female pilot survived the crash.

The NWT Coroner's Office is continuing to investigate the fatal crash along with RCMP and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.

The Coroner Service expressed condolences to the victims' family and friends.
