November 13, 1935 - March 24, 2024

On Sunday, March 24, at 00:51 hrs, Ole Maynard Loberg was cleared for final take-off, his spirit departing this world to soar into the Great Beyond, free of pain and infirmity; he went with much love following him.

Ole's early years were spent on the family farm near Valhalla Centre, Alberta, and in 1954 he joined the RCAF as a pilot and trainer, a career that provided him with many stories to share of his time training students in Harvard airplanes, and his time flying the T-33 Silver Star jet. He loved flying and continued as a private pilot in Alberta and the NWT after leaving the Air Force in 1962.

Always an entrepreneurial man, Ole turned his hand to farming, various other enterprises, then an insurance agency, opening Loberg Agencies in Hay River and Yellowknife. Later, Ole and Marg moved to White City, Saskatchewan, and then settled in Didsbury, Alberta in 2010.

Ole's voracious appetite for learning, driven by an innate, deep curiosity about all things, led him to take up woodworking, photography, sailing, golf, and playing music, among other pursuits. He read widely and loved a good conversation on any subject, ranging from the Far Side to quantum physics. Ole lived a full life with compassion and respect for others, and never lost his quirky and quick sense of humor. Family was very important to Ole, and he enjoyed visits and phone conversations immensely.

He will be profoundly missed by his wife Margaret, her children Dean Halifax, Craig Halifax (Kristin), Breigh Stratten (Todd); his children Anne Wilson (Robert), Krista Johnson (Ken), Karen Suchla (Jim) and Michael Loberg (Melodi); grand-children and great-grandchildren; sister Aimee (Paul) Gibson and brother Carmen (Linda) Loberg, SIL Emily Loberg, BIL Leo Kimpe, BIL Don Vogt, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents Paul and Olga Loberg, sisters Patricia Kimpe and Pauline Loberg, and brother Gerald Loberg.

A gathering to celebrate Ole's life will be held April 27, 2024 at the Didsbury Golf Club from 1-4 pm.
