This past Sunday was the full buck moon in Capricorn, the second full moon in Capricorn since last month's on June 21, and these double moons are asking, with twice the emphasis, what are we holding onto that is ready to shed to make room for new growth?
When horns are shed, as this moon is named for, or when nature creates processes of release, it is not for endings, nor because something is inherently ‘wrong’ but rather, everything is in its ‘right’ order — like a snake shedding its skin.
This full moon is in Capricorn, which is also the sign Pluto has been dancing in and out of as we move towards the age of Aquarius.
This period asks us to reflect on what we have grounded into reality over the last six months, since the new moon in Capricorn at the beginning of this year, but also what we have been shifting through, deeply, since Pluto first entered Capricorn in 2008.
Capricorn, the goat, is an Earth sign grounded in the physical world, it speaks to the bottom dollar, to Wall Street, to our economic systems — and with Capricorn highlighted over the last 16 years, the challenges we faced have much to do with this material world and our sense of security and stability here.
Capricorn can be a hard worker, the GOAT, literally, but Capricorn can also represent our shadow, the aspects of our psyche that are self-defeating, our addictions, our perceptions and misconceptions, and self-limiting thoughts and narratives of adversity and scarcity.
So these moons, and this time before Pluto fully transitions into Aquarius this fall, sheds light (the full moon) on how our shadows, fears and notions of scarcity have impacted us, individually and collectively, since 2008 — think economic crash, housing crisis, rise of addictions, social revolution, pandemics and class warfare, personal struggles within family and social norms.
On the other hand, Capricorn is also represented by the world — by self-mastery, discipline, discernment and diligence, by the great flow that comes when great care has been taken to lay a strong foundation — the enjoyment of the sensual, material world. In its light, Capricorn can embody a deeply stoic, epicurean, joy for life — think hot pho, or a really good salad, or whatever food gets you both on a healthy molecular level and your taste buds love it — balance. It's that ‘feel good’ that comes with the discipline of intentional, gentle moderation.
How have constraints and restraints or challenges aligned you with greater self-mastery?
How have these past 16 years refined your sense of justice and opened your mind and heart to the wider world around you?
As we move through Capricorn in Pluto to Aquarius — the literal age of Aquarius (yes, feel free to start singing The Fifth Dimension) we see a rise of Aquarian traits taking centre stage: interdependence, heart, and justice, led intelligence, social evolution, a renaissance of the art, the art of the peoples, civic-centred politics and our connections to the Earth sky and water nations, our other than human relations, the four legends and winged ones.
As we face new challenges, the healing waters of Aquarius, the water bearer, are soothing our aching bones for this last marathon of karmic transformations (both personal and collective) and with both Saturn and Neptune retrograde in Pisces right now, you might not feel that sweet breath of relief at the end of a storm, not quite yet, but we are almost there. Now, more than ever, is a time to invest in love and the aspects of creative play that allow us to release our narratives of ‘not enough, never enough’ to embrace a ‘work hard, play harder, rest best of all’ sort of mentality. Now is a time to dig deep into our humanity and remember that which keeps us all in this dance of humanity together — yes, it was a great time for a full moon music festival, right?
If we honour the pathways of Capricorn, in its light, of dedication, honour, integrity and disciplined wisdom, then we will enjoy the flow of Dharma, in alignment with our world, and one another.
During the rest this week, as the post full moon energies ebb away, gather your energies and strength for the upcoming lion's gate portal and Leo season coming into full swing.
Enjoy the heat, if you can, but allow our hearts to move us towards right action in alignment with our highest heart-centred selves. That is where we will always find our way towards contributing to the greater good — ours and many coming generations.
