Reaching out to the world

As Snowking's Winter Festival grows year by year, so does our social media and web presence. Before we knew it, our Old Town festival garnered worldwide attention – and it's still growing.

Snowdrift Dave aka Dave Zethof

That’s where I come in. I’m only self-taught and it’s all volunteer time, but I’m happy to learn more each year and help rise the festival to Internet stardom. The good thing is, I’ve noticed that when you are having a festival inside a snow castle it’s really not all that hard to do, people love it!

For example, our social media posts reached over 24,000 people in the last month, and we grew by over 140 followers and that was without even trying too hard! We have website views and social media fans from all over: Canada, USA, Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Denmark, South Africa, Italy, Bulgaria, Sri Lanka ... and the list goes on. We’ve been featured on Buzzfeed, had pieces in Canadian Affairs and Chickadee Magazine, and countless bits in Japanese and Chinese television shows and articles. We’re even on Google maps!

It’s great to see this humble Old Town festival get more and more international attention every year on the internet and beyond. To the King’s credit, we did have Rick Mercer come up about a decade ago, long before we jumped on to the web or I came by. So, it’s certainly true this quirky festival has been getting attention for a long time.

If you haven’t already, head on over to our website to download our 2018 Calendar of Events. Snowstorm Sally worked hard on lining up another amazing year and we can’t wait to get started.

See you on the ice!
