It hasn't been the best of times for Kevin Koe and his rink at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.

After starting the men's curling event with four straight wins, he's lost his last three as of press time, falling to Sweden on Friday by a score of 5-2, followed by an 8-6 loss to Switzerland on Saturday and a 9-7 extra-end loss to the U.S. on Sunday.

Koe and company were up against Japan on Monday and wrapped up the round-robin yesterday against Denmark. See the next edition of Yellowknifer for an update.

The races are on

This weekend will be a busy one at the Yellowknife Ski Club, weather permitting.

It's the annual Yellowknife Ski Races and it all gets underway on Saturday afternoon with the classic technique races starting at 1:30 p.m. Each race will be run in order of distance with interval starts, meaning each skier will start one at a time.

The following day features the free technique races also starting at 1:30 p.m. The big difference from the previous day is each race will begin with a mass start but each race will be run in order of distance.

Each competitor will receive a cookie medal regardless of where they finish.

Basketball girls Alberta-bound

The Diamonds junior high performance girls basketball squad is about to hit the road for a tournament this weekend in Grande Prairie, Alta.

Eight of the program's finest will be competing in the Wolves Junior High Basketball Classic, hosted by Grande Prairie Regional College.

Tobi Dusome is the head coach and she said it's a chance for the girls to hit the court and get in some game time at a tournament setting.

The games begin on Friday and continue through to Saturday.
