Plans are underway at Ekati to develop a new open-pit mine at its Point Lake site. “We do have plans to develop a new open pit at Point Lake. Subject to the issuance of the required permits, mining will commence at Point Lake in 2023,” said Michelle McCullagh, spokesperson for Ekati operator Arctic Canadian Diamond Company.
