Demolition of the Yellowknife Visitors Centre began on Wednesday, bringing an end to the structure that was built in 1992.
Since April 16 work crews had done selective interior demolition and salvage work on the shuttered building.
Demolition is expected to wrap up by Sunday, according to a GNWT schedule, with material sorting and site clean up continuing until May 16.
The $2.25 million Visitors Centre was shuttered in May of 2017 after structural problems had caused the building to slowly sink into the marsh near Frame Lake.
Its tourism information services were then moved to the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre.
