Blaze engulfs Curry Dr. garage Friday night

A call about a garage fire Friday night led to a 4.5 hour fight to extinguish flames at a Curry Dr. shop.

Yellowknife Fire Division crews were dispatched to 76 Curry Dr. around at 11:10 p.m. after a report of flames and smoke coming from a garage, according to a release from the City Monday. Off-duty personnel were requested to attend the scene in a "full group alert."Fire crews, including 4 personnel, one pump and one tanker, initially attended the scene, where smoke was seen coming from the main entrance of the garage, as well as both of its bay doors.

Flames were also observed near the front side of the structure, but due to heavy smoke, on-scene investigators were unable to determine what was on fire.

No one was injured in the blaze, which occurred within a shop on industrial property, according to the City's director of public safety Dennis Marchiori.

Fourteen fire personnel attended the scene until the fire was put out.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The NWT Fire Marshall has been contacted to launch an investigation, the news release stated.

More to come.
