City of Yellowknife counting number of homeless people

Michael-Hugall

The City of Yellowknife will try to count the number of homeless people in its boundaries.

The survey will run on April 22 and 23. Trained volunteers and staff will be counting the number of people in shelters, short-term housing and on the street, stated a release from director of community services Grant White.

Data from the survey will update the point-in-time homeless count which the city conducted in 2015. In 2015 the city found a total of 139 people who – they deemed –were homeless.

For the 2018 version of the count city officials will be at the SideDoor Resource Centre, Safe Harbour Day Centre and YWCA.
Yellowknife is one of 60 communities in the NWT participating in the PIT survey.

The results will be made public once all the data is gathered, stated the release.
