In an effort to develop the downtown core, the City of Yellowknife is still offering funding to business owners who build sidewalk patios or offer their bathrooms to the public.
“Both incentives were introduced by council in 2017 as a five-year project free of cost for eligible businesses. It would be great to see the number of participants increase each year,” said deputy mayor Adrian Bell in a news release Monday.
Downtown business owners can apply for up to $10,000 to build sidewalk patios.
There is also a city-wide grant opportunity of up to $500 for qualifying landlords who make their washrooms available to the public.
When the funding was first offered in 2017, two local businesses successfully applied for the incentives. Patrick Scott, who owns the Birchwood Cafe, received funds to build a patio. Jason Perrino and Colin Snow who own Twist and Shout were awarded $500 for offering public access to their washrooms.
