CT scanner running, sterilization machine still down at Stanton

The CT scanner at Stanton Territorial Hospital is now up and running, the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) announced in a news release this morning.

In the last week, 45 CT scans and 13 surgeries were cancelled due to "service interruptions" with the hospital's CT scanner and sterilization units.

While the CT scanner was back in operation on April 20, the main sterilizer units are still out of service.

"Stanton has adjusted operations with additional shifts for staff responsible for instrument sterilization/reprocessing using back up sterilizer units," stated the health authority in the release.

This means scheduled surgeries will go forward, and surgeries cancelled between April 16 and 23 will be rescheduled as soon as possible.

In the event of urgent or emergency cases beyond the hospital's capacity "the NTHSSA maintains the ability to send individuals to Alberta," states the release.
