'Yes We Care' offered people with no or low-incomes free hair cuts alongside a sexual health clinic, legal aid outreach clinic and a literacy council reading booth. Julie Green, MLA Yellowknife Center, and a facilitator of the event said  barbers from Ragged Ass Barbers and Vixen Hair Den would give close to 60 haircuts during the four-hour clinic.

“They just have these transformative haircuts, they're just cleaned right up and I always feel like they're walking a little taller when they leave here,” said Green “I think everybody benefits.”

This was the 11th edition of the event in the city, Yes We Care has taken place every May and October in the capitol since 2012. Rita Poodlat, attended the event this week to get her first haircut since the last time she attended the event two years ago.

“The thing is, I can't afford to get my haircut so I come here,” said Poodlat. “I feel a whole lot better than when I came in here.”
