Convicted killer Denecho King will be sentenced on Nov. 16.

King, 25, was found guilty of second-degree murder and aggravated assault in July following a month-long trial in Yellowknife.

King was convicted of carrying out a bloody and brutal 2014 sword attack at a city apartment that claimed the life of John Wifladt.

The attack left Wifladt's best friend, Colin Digness, seriously injured.

The sentencing date was set Monday when King made a brief court appearance in NWT Supreme Court.

He sighed as he sat in the prisoner's booth.

Both the Crown and the defence indicated they'd received copies of King's pre-sentence report – a summary of an offender's background used to help shape a judge's sentencing decision.

After finding King guilty last month, Justice Andrew Mahar ordered the report, telling King he “wanted to know more about him,” ahead of sentencing.

With second-degree murder convictions carrying an automatic life sentence, King won’t be eligible for parole for at least 10 years.
