The Conseil de developpement economique des Territories du Nord-Ouest (CDETNO) is holding an employment cafe tonight.

CDETNO organizes the job fair twice a year, and tonight's event will be the 17th edition.

“What 'café emplois' does is it's a gathering where we're trying to bridge employers and employees,” said Francois Afane, executive director of CDETNO.

There's a scarcity of workers in the North, and the job market is very competitive, he said.

“The job market is steady but the demand is growing on both ends,” he said.

“The big issue with employers here is the manpower, is hiring the right people. Everybody is fighting to hire people and to maintain and keep staff.”

The event is open to everyone and will have over 20 different employer booths, said Afane.

“This edition particularly we are trying to be as diverse and as in-depth as possible,” he said, with employers searching for everything from front-end positions to specialized fields like accounting.

The employment cafe is free to attend and will take place at the Greenstone Building tonight from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
