A former city bylaw officer charged with a pair of offences involving a girl under the age of 18 is set to head to trial in Yellowknife today.

Ricky Lee Sutherland is charged with one count of making sexually explicit material available to a person under the age of 18, and one count of luring the same alleged female victim.

The offences are alleged to have occurred in early 2017.

Sutherland was appointed as a municipal enforcement division (MED) constable in February 2015, city records show.

It’s unclear at this time whether or not Sutherland was employed by MED at the time of the alleged offences.

Sutherland will face a judge-alone trial in NWT Supreme court.

The trial is expected to begin at 10 a.m.

Full story to come.
