RMCP-fatal-fire-004

An apartment fire that claimed the life of a 55-year-old Yellowknife woman last weekend has been deemed not suspicious by police.

In the early hours of Saturday April 7, fire crews and RCMP responded to a fire at Aurora Suites apartments on 46 Street.

A woman, found in her apartment unit, was taken to Stanton Territorial Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Another occupant was treated for smoke inhalation.

"A post-mortem autopsy has been completed. At this point, there is nothing to indicate suspicious activity in the event," a news release from RCMP stated Thursday.

RCMP are continuing to assist the NWT Office of the Fire Marshal and the NWT Coroner Service in investigating the blaze.
