RCMP say they now believe the theft of firearms and ammunition from a city home during a recent break-in was a targeted incident and not a random burglary.

On Thanksgiving weekend, multiple guns, ammunition, jewellery and other items were stolen from Rivett Crescent home.

On Friday, an  arrest warrant was issued for Beau Desire-Tesar, a 31-year-old Yellowknife man charged in connection with the theft.

Police are still asking for the public's help in locating Desire-Tesar, but in a news release issued Monday evening, RCMP say they have reason to be believe the theft was targeted.

"The suspects gained access to the residence legally, prior to committing the thefts," stated an RCMP spokesperson.

"The suspect was allowed access by a relative of the homeowner and then later committed the theft," a spokesperson for the RCMP told Yellowknifer in an email.

One individual, not named in Monday's release, has been arrested in connection with the break-in.

Police say charges are pending.

"Through multiple search warrants, executed at an apartment complex, storage unit, and on two vehicles, RCMP have recovered some of the stolen firearms. Additional firearms, ammunition, and jewellery remain unaccounted for," stated the news release.

RCMP believe Desire-Tesar is still in the territory and may be in the Yellowknife area, according to a news release issued Friday.

The suspect is described as is a white, 185 cm tall male with a lanky build, dark brown hair and hazel eyes. Police have not provided an image of the suspect at this time.He may be in possession of firearms.
