Students attending Yellowknife Education District No. 1 (Yk1) schools will get a few more days to buy bus passes after First Transit extended the deadline until Sept. 4, said Yk1 in a news release on Friday.
The original deadline was Aug. 31, the day schools reopen.
Families who still need bus passes for the school year must contact Tram Do, Yk1's Director of Corporate Services at tram.do@yk1.nt.ca and not First Transit, as the company will have reduced hours next week.

"We are grateful for First Transit's cooperation and willingness to help families who may still need bus passes for the upcoming school year," Yk1 said.
The notice comes days after Yk1 announced that wearing masks on buses operated by First Transit is mandatory, including before boarding the bus, during the ride and while disembarking.

Masks are also required when high school students ride City of Yellowknife buses, which even with masking will have 50 per cent reduced capacity.
Grade 8 students at Sir John Franklin High School can take First Transit or City of Yellowknife buses to school.
Students found without masks on buses will receive three warnings before being asked not to ride.
