Giant Mine update

In an effort to attract Northern workers, the California-based company awarded the contract to remediate Giant Mine will split this work into five sub-contracts ahead of taking over the site this June.

Parsons Inc. construction company will manage site care and maintenance, as well as clean-up of the entire mine site — both surface and underground.

It is also seeking water treatment workers, website development as well as site security, medical and emergency staff.

At a presentation Monday, representatives from the Giant Mine Remediation Project told city council the company would size its contracts to attract Northern talent.

At the project's peak, 250 people will be employed, with those numbers changing depending on project design, said Braumberger.

Meanwhile, the public can attend a forum on the Giant Mine Remediation project will be held at the Prince of Wales Museum Cafe on March 8 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
