UPDATE: Harley's Hardrock Saloon moving into former KFC building

Yellowknife’s storied Harley’s Hardrock Saloon will soon have a new and bigger home – the former KFC and Lenny Burger building downtown – according to co-owner Sara Handley.

She initially declined in an interview with Yellowknifer to say where Canada’s northernmost strip club will be moving in December but confirmed on social media after yesterday's press deadline the new building would be the old Lenny Burger and KFC location.

"It’s official - Harleys Hardrock Saloon will be relocating! Tentatively opening at our new spot (previously KFC and Lenny Burger) down the street on December 1st. We’ve got some big changes coming your way," stated the post.

It's hoped the new club will open on Dec. 1.

Handley had previously announced she was looking to open a private cannabis store in the city once the GNWT allows private sales licenses, which is expected six months after legalization.

Handley said she is looking to incorporate that shop into the same building as the new club.

“We're also adding in a Harley's diner including a full menu and 24 hour all-day breakfast,” she said.

“The club portion will be open according to the liquor law rules. Open at 11 a.m. and open until 2 a.m. The restaurant side of it will be open 24 hours.”

Handley said all three sections of the proposed new establishment will be separate but in the same building.

While the plan is in place and, according to Handley, the hard work has begun, the establishment will still need to pass a number of different applications before all three sections are open for business.

Private cannabis sales will require approval from the minister responsible for the NWT Liquor and Cannabis Commission after a number of checks, including one in which the commission determines whether there is room in the market for a new cannabis retailer in the community.

In order for the diner to open, Harley's will need to pass all the appropriate food health and safety inspections. Handley hopes that all three portions could be open by mid to late January 2019.
