Fort Liard RCMP are investigating reports of further damage done to the Highway 7 border gate after police were alerted to an incident by the GNWT Department of Infrastructure last weekend.
In April, News North reported a separate instance where two Fort Liard residents were charged with ramming the same gate and causing extensive damage.
The Northwest Territories RCMP issued a news release on Tuesday stating that on Sunday, May 31, more damage was done to the North Gate, located 10 kilometres from the NWT border with British Columbia.
The news release states that Fort Liard RCMP expect to lay charges after the investigation is complete.
Police say that they have followed up with Protect NWT regarding information concerning local community members being involved in the damage.
The gate has since been re-secured by the Department of Infrastructure, according to the news release.
“The RCMP will continue to work with our partners to provide assistance when requested to keep the Northwest Territories safe,” RCMP Staff Sgt. Ken stated in the news release.
