Investigation into 'suspicious' fire on Franklin continues

House-Fire-YK

A fire that gutted a longstanding, uninhabited home on Franklin Avenue early Monday morning is being treated as suspicious by investigators, the territory's fire marshal says.

"...The fire has been ruled suspicious. There was no reason for a fire to occur when the fire originated," stated NWT fire marshal Chucker Dewar in an email.

While suspicious in nature, Dewar told Yellowknifer the fire's cause has not yet been determined.

The NWT Office of the Fire Marshal has completed it's on site investigation, and the scene has been released to the property owner.

"We are asking anyone with information related to the fire to contact the RCMP," stated Dewar.
