The Canadian Coast Guard has been working for several weeks to find a contractor to raise a sunken boat in Great Slave Lake. In July, the coast guard said it was optimistic that the vessel would be removed by early summer.

Little progress has been made in terms of getting a sunken 40-foot vessel out of Great Slave Slake.

Samantha Di Lorenzo, a communications person for the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG), said that personnel have been busy this time of year with Arctic operations in full swing. The latest update she provided indicated that the CCG is still monitoring the sunken vessel and there is no timeline for securing a marine salvage contract.

"CCG is exploring multiple avenues to complete this process as quickly and efficiently as possible," Di Lorenzo wrote.

The vessel is stable, with containment measures in place to absorb any pollutants, she added.

The area is clearly marked by a containment boom.

In its last update, CCG said it did not know what caused the boat to sink, nor did the coast guard know what the vessel was carrying.
