All NWT liquor stores made wearing masks a requirement as of Monday, said Department of Finance spokesperson Todd Sasaki.

“NWT Liquor Store Operators have contacted the Northwest Territories Liquor and Cannabis Commission (NTLCC) to state that they will be making masks mandatory in all NWT stores,” Sasaki said.

The two liquor stores in Yellowknife introduced their masking policy on Friday.

Starting Monday, only customers wearing masks can enter the following shops:

  • Fort Simpson Beverages
  • Fort Smith Liquor Store
  • Hay River Liquor Retailers Ltd
  • Inuvik Liquor Store
  • Norman Wells Liquor Agency

Though the decision to introduce mandatory masks is at the discretion of the private store owners, the NTLCC supports their decision, Sasaki said.
