Miniso, a China-based lifestyle store, opened its doors on 49 Street on Saturday.

With products ranging from stationery to stuffed animals to tech accessories and household items like frying pans, the store was a hit with Yellowknifers who packed into the retail outlet for the grand opening this weekend.

The stylish and affordable Miniso brand was co-founded in 2013 by Japanese designer Miyake Junya and Chinese entrepreneur Ye Guofu and in 2016 alone, the company brought in $1.8 billion in sales revenue, Miniso’s website states.

The majority of the store’s products are manufactured in Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and China with stores all over the world.

While Miniso Canada currently has a number of locations in B.C., Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia, the new store in Yellowknife is a first in the North.
