In celebration of National Police Week, members of Yellowknife’s RCMP detachment took a break from serving the public Wednesday to serve up some grub on the grill.

Yellowknifers of all ages stopped by Veterans Memorial Drive to grab hot dogs and cake while getting an up-close look at some of the detachment’s law enforcement partners.
Representatives from the City’s Municipal Enforcement Division (MED), Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and Victim Services helmed booths and displays, offering guests an informative snapshot of their daily duties and objectives.
In recognizing the country-wide nod to policing, the BBQ get-together also aimed to connect Mounties with the community members they serve.
The detachment’s officer in charge, Insp. Alexandre Laporte, who was present at the gathering, has named community policing as a priority since taking the reins in late February.
