NEWS BRIEFS: RCMP makes stylish statement on bullying

Members of the Yellowknife RCMP took a stylish stand against bullying Wednesday.

Senior management, along with general duty and community policing members of the force, donned pink uniform shirts in support of Pink Shirt Day.

Pink Shirt Day is recognized annually – and internationally – on Feb.28 to raise awareness about bullying.

Members of the RCMP, who visited several schools to speak with students and staff about the need to "stop bullying," marked the occasion to "show their community spirit and continued support for Pink Shirt Day," a news release stated Wednesday.

"This is an initiative that I feel strongly about and I know so many police officers do as well and we collectively thought it would be appropriate to show our support today by wearing pink uniform shirts," Const. Heather Cosenzo stated in the release.

Camping hits all-time high across the NWT

The GNWT Industry Tourism and Investment office said approximately 35,050 people visited parks across the territory overnight in 2017, which is a 20 per cent increase over 2016.

The increase of attendance is being attributed to a $3.7 million facility face lift in 2017, stated a release Wednesday.

More than half of all visitors to parks came from outside of the NWT.

The Sahtu Glossary was developed with help from a variety of Indigenous organizations and the GNWT Health and Social Services.

It was developed and translated by Lucy Anne Yakeyela and Fibbie Tatti who incorporated Fort Good Hope, Tulita and Deline dialects. The glossary will be distributed in hard copies and audio files to government offices.
