Doug Prendergast, manager of communications with NTPC confirmed Chinna's death with "deep sadness."

Chinna started as an NTPC apprentice power systems electrician in 2018.

“Michael was an excellent employee who always showed a strong commitment to safety,” Prendergast added. “At the time of his accident, he was wearing all of the required personal protective equipment, including a hard hat and safety goggles.”

Prendergast added that no further information will be provided to protect the privacy of the family and an ongoing investigation by the Workplace Safety and Compensation Commission (WSCC). The WSCC would not comment, citing privacy legislation.

A "saddened" Diane Archie, minister responsible for the NTPC, issued a statement Tuesday:

"My thoughts are with his family and friends during this very difficult time," she said in an email.
