The NWT Montessori Society generated $4,600 through its second annual photo fundraiser at Elks Lodge on Saturday.

Individuals and families paid $150 for portraits at the sold-out event, which will broaden preschool and elementary school offerings.

“It's bringing programming such as gymnastics, music, yoga, dance and art,” said Jessica Copple, executive director of the NWT Montessori Society.

“And it just gives the opportunity to our students to participate in programming that maybe they wouldn't be able to otherwise.”

The NWT Montessori Society runs a preschool program at its school on 52 Street and a Montessori elementary program at N.J. Macpherson School.

The Birchbark Discovery Centre at Mildred Hall School, which opened its doors this fall, is also a partnership between YK1 and the NWT Montessori Society.

Samantha Stuart, who runs her own photography business, shot the portraits.

“Samantha is just such an amazing member of the community and she's always donating her time to various organizations,” Copple said. “We couldn't do it without her.”
