Yellowknife RCMP are investigating a suspicious man in a small white car who allegedly asked a female youth to enter his vehicle Saturday evening, according to a police news release.

The news release stated the 12-year-old was riding her bike near Finlayson Drive and Banke Crescent when the man allegedly spoke to her and demanded she get into the vehicle. She did not interact with him and rode her bike to safety.

The driver is described as a six foot tall, tan Caucasian man with black hair. Police request that anyone who was in the area between approximately 6 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday to share sightings of a “matching car, person or suspicious activity,” the news release states.

The investigation currently has no indicators to suggest the incident is related to past reported interactions of youth and vehicles.

For public safety, police will conduct additional patrols in the area. In addition to reporting suspicious activity, the RCMP encourages parents and caregivers to educate their children about the possible dangers associated with speaking to strangers.
